Otto Dix (1891 - 1969)
Known for his critical and often gloomy depictions of the Weimar Republic. His most important works include The War (Der Krieg, 1924), The Skat Players (Die Skatspieler, 1920), and Metropolis (Die Großstadt, 1927-1928).
Oskar Schlemmer (1888 - 1943)
A leading figure of the Bauhaus movement, he was celebrated for his work in abstract painting and figurative performance art. His most influential works include Triadic Ballet (Triadisches Ballett, 1922), Bauhaus Staircase (Bauhaustreppe, 1932), and Figuren im Raum (1925).
HAP Grieshaber (1908 - 1981):
A master of the woodcut whose works often addressed social and political themes. His best-known works include Der Totentanz von Basel (1966), Der Bauernkrieg (1975), and Hommage à Caspar David Friedrich (1974).
