Baden Wine Region at a Glance
Blessed by the Sun
Baden is one of the two major wine-growing regions in Southwest Germany. Baden wine country covers around 15,800 hectares of vineyards and stretches for 400 kilometres. It is divided into
nine wine regions: Lake Constance, Markgräflerland, Kaiserstuhl, Tuniberg, Breisgau, Ortenau, Kraichgau, Badische Bergstraße and Tauberfranken.
Thanks to its unique geographical location, Baden enjoys more sunshine and a warmer climate than anywhere else in Germany. Its excellent soils also help give the wines of each region their own distinctive character. Around two-thirds of Baden’s vineyards are planted with five white grape varieties: Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gutedel and Pinot Blanc. Pinot Noir accounts for the remaining third, which is why Baden is often referred to as a haven for Pinot varieties.
By the way:
Baden is the only German wine-growing region in European Wine-Growing Zone B and ranks among Europe’s finest wine regions.
