Tip 1: Barrel Cabins at Haberjockelshof Farm

Sleep in a barrel? Yes! The Haberjockelshof organic farm in Titisee-Neustadt has big, barrel-shaped, wooden cabins that are surrounded by lush Black Forest meadows, with perhaps a cow or two. Each “barrel” has a spacious living room, heating and can sleep up to four people. The shower, toilet and lounge with a refrigerator are in an adjoining building. The price includes a rustic breakfast with home-made specialities. Bookable from May to October.

Tip 2: Tree Tents at Lake Schluchsee

Slung between two large spruce trees, these extraordinary “flying tents” are two metres off the ground! They overlook Lake Schluchsee and, on warm summer nights, the “roof” can be removed, so you can sleep under the stars. The tents are suitable for two people, such as a couple or parent and child. Showers and toilets are on a nearby campsite. Breakfast is an option, which can be ordered in advance. Bookable from May to October.

Tip 3: Tree Houses and Sheperd's Wagons in the Tripsdrill Nature Resort

Surrounded by woodland, the Tripsdrill Nature Resort has 20 tree houses and 20 rustic shepherd's wagons that guarantee memorable experiences. The shepherd's wagons are suitable for up to five people and have a seating area, refrigerator and washing machine. The central shower block is close by. Each tree house sleeps up to six and has a small bathroom and veranda. Both types of accommodation are heated, so can be booked year-round. Breakfast and admission to the Tripsdrill Wildlife Park next door are included in the price.

Tip 6: Sleep in a Hay Loft at the Fischer Holiday Farm

Children love climbing up to the loft to sleep in the hay at the Fischer family’s holiday farm in Seebach in the Black Forest. On request, the Fischers can organize an evening barbecue, a farmer's breakfast and cooking lessons to make bread or the quiche-like Speckrahmkuchen. There is a communal bathroom – and a fountain for washing with fresh spring water. Available from May to October. Remember to bring your own sleeping bag!

Spend the Night in the US, Spain, or Italy at the Europa-Park Resort

At Europa-Park in Rust, Germany, you can not only explore the 15 European themed areas by day, but also stay overnight in one of the themed hotels.
